Email marketing continues to be a cost effective way of communicating with your customers and enquirers.
Re-activating lapsed customers and converting previous enquirers to customers via email append (or e-append as it's sometimes referred to) is more successful when you can communicate with them via email.

What is Email Append

Email append is the process of adding email addresses to your customer and enquirer data where you may not already have them. With over 102 million opted in email records, we have the single largest source of data for email append.

Unlike appending other channels (where the data can be added straight away) with email append we have to undertake a "pre-append" broadcast. This is sent to consumers advising them they have 2 weeks to opt-out receiving email communications from the company who wishes to use their email address. After the 2 weeks all hard bounces and opt outs are removed and only the usable email addresses are appended to your data for use in perpetuity. Appending email addresses to cold prospect data is not permissible.

'Reverse append' links your email data to a postal name and address.

The addition of this data in turn provides further append and profiling options e.g. occupation, income, hobbies/interests, geo demographics and other key discriminators.

A collaboration between Consumer Cloud Services and many of the UK's leading data suppliers, Consumer Channel Data is a fully automated online service that allows marketers to append channels to their customers and qualified prospects.

The Challenge

  • Many of the data suppliers would only provide postal names and addresses along with flags to indicate presence of other channels but not the actual channels.
  • The system had to be easy to use. Uploading of data, navigation around page and download of appended records had to be straight forward.
  • Speed of upload, matching and output was an absolute requirement in order to enhance the user experience.
  • A similar system to the online postal suppression providers was needed but to enhance (add) data rather than remove.

Our Solution

  • CCD database built that merged 33 million postal names and addresses along with other channel items (where provided) or flags.
  • Development of fully automated processes. From initial upload right through to the output of appended data.
  • An API developed that data suppliers could quickly/ securely install in-house that allowed the system to extract channel items to fulfill data purchases.
  • Full set of automated emails and relevant correspondence written to help ensure users were regularly informed as to status of their job(s).

The Result

  • Uploads, on even tens of thousands of records, achieved in less than one minute.
  • Matching of postal names & addresses or email addresses completed within just a few minutes.
  • Zero complaints, from almost 100 registered users, regarding speed and ease of use.

Bonmarché is the UK's leading value ladies clothing retailer, delivering high quality fashion at affordable prices to their customers. With over 200 retail outlets they are a very well known brand and synonymous with ladies apparel.

The Challenge

  • Bonmarché collected information about their customers but needed to improve on-going communications to increase sales, both online and at retail outlets.
  • Postal addresses dated back over a number of years and some were known to be incorrect.
  • Understanding the depth and accuracy of postal data prior to undertaking multi-channel campaigns was the first challenge. Bonmarché wanted to test and evaluate the value of appending.

Our Solution

  • Run an extensive data hygiene process to understand the quality of existing data and what information needed to be updated.
  • Bonmarché used the data hygiene report to decide how far back (in the database) they wanted to run the append test.
  • Recency period selected and data hygiene applied. The clean postal data then matched to Consumer Chanel Data and email addresses appended.

The Result

  • Test campaigns produced positive results, then decided to append across the entire database including lapsed customers.
  • Customers were informed, via email campaigns, of upcoming events and offers at their nearest store.
  • Store traffic increased using special vouchers and time sensitive offers.
